Attention all young people interested in airplanes and flying. The members of the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association or EAA will be offering free airplane rides at the Grand Rapids airport on Saturday June 11th 2016. The hours will be from 8am to 12 noon.
This EAA chapter has been donating thier time and sharing thier expertise with kids between the ages of 8 and 17 for twelve years now. During the flight, pilots will talk about airplanes and give a basic understanding of how they work. They will answer questions about different types of careers within aviation. The sky is literally the limit. Think space. Think engineering. They will of course discuss safety procedures. The goal is to create interest in flying and associated careers and to get started on their own pilots license if they so desire.
Over 500 kids have received a free flight with a qualified pilot and gotten a taste of the freedom of flight in three dimensions at our chapter. An experience they will probably remember the rest of thier lives. After the flight each child will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Additionally they will receive their first log book.
We will start registering attendees at the Gordy Newstrom field by 8am. Registration will close at noon. In case of inclement weather flights can be postponed or canceled. Due to age restrictions, no parents will be able to fly.
